We are holding a FREE All Day training event at the Microsoft office in Waltham, Ma in partnership with Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard.
The event is called “The Connected Home Day”. It’s a full day training for novice computer users who want to learn how to build and secure a home network, use Microsoft Media Center to it’s full potential and use Windows Home Server to store and backup their important documents and precious Digital Photos and Videos. We will also be covering the Analog to Digital conversion in Feb 2009 and what it means to the average person.

What is Media Center (MC)?
Media Center is a suite of applications built into certain versions of WindowsXP and Windows Vista. It enables you to watch and record TV from Over-the-Air and Set-Top-Boxes (Cable and Satellite), manage and play your digital music collection, check out your digital photos and watch your digital videos. All from the comfort of your couch! Think of the DVR from your TV provider on steroids!
What is Windows Home Server (WHS)?
Windows Home Server is a hardware appliance intended to solve an issue that has been plaguing home users since the beginning of the personal computer. Backups. How many times have you lost important documents, resumes, music and photos because of a hardware failure of your computer? WHS provides a central location to store those important files and documents. It also will backup every computer on your home network EVERY NIGHT!
Ever forget an important file only to remember that you left it at home? WHS will let you retrieve that file from the internet anywhere in the world. You can also access all of your home computers remotely and securely.
The event will be held on September 13th, 2008. Check-in begins at 8am, the first session starts at 9am.
This is the Training for you!
 
Agenda-
The day is divided into 2 tracks. The first track is the Home Network track. The second is the Home Theater track.
We are going to attempt to stream all the sessions using Ustream.TV - Each track has it's own UStream channel. Click on the link from each track to watch. If you want to watch a stream from a different track you will need to switch to that channel. Remember that the streams are from a small webcam, so the quality is not very good and the sound may not be very good as well.
We are also going to be recording the sessions with video cameras and intend on creating a DVD of the event.

Jack Daniel is a blogger, a support engineer at Astaro, a network security consultant and a CISSP. Jack is a strong proponent of user groups and knowledge sharing, and has given presentations on a variety of topics at NAISG, the Southern New England Network and the Windows Boston user group meetings.
